Overview

"The photographic image of a scene is just one level, one idea. One step. The moment when I'm really painting is much more meaningful."

Drago Persic's works are based on memorabilia. A treasure trove of private photos, newspaper clippings, film sequences and staged photography. All of this culminates in his works into one big whole and makes them "flicker" across the screen like filmstrips. The blurriness that surrounds his latest works is based on the fact that every memory is diffuse, intangible and, above all, can no longer be recalled one-to-one. Drago Persic also conveys this ambiguity when he deliberately directs his slide projection out of focus onto his images.

Originally using the entire colour palette from white to black, Persic's works are now becoming more and more colourful, the pigment is making its entrance. For the first time in his cloth pictures, in which he assigns exactly one pigment to each picture - that is, to each cloth. In his more recent series, to which the painting "German Dogs Have Clean Teeth" also belongs, the colour is applied in layers, superimposed and thus technically translated into nuances, as is also the case with the grey areas in his black and white paintings.
