Museum Angerlehner. Art. Life. Passion. 10 Years Museum Angerlehner: with works by Martin Schnur, Karen Holländer, Xianwei Zhu and others

1 May - 15 October 2023

The collection show celebrating the museum's tenth anniversary provides an in-depth insight into the diverse holdings of Austrian and international art. The familiar meets the surprising and is set in exciting dialogues with each other. Around 200 works by over 100 artists will be on display in the large exhibition hall as well as in the gallery and graphics rooms - paintings as well as photographs, drawings and sculptures.
The passion for art of the private collector Heinz Josef Angerlehner is always present in the museum. His feeling for contemporary art, his personal preferences and interests may also differ from official collection priorities and acquisition policies. This is consciously taken into account in the collection show.
In the exhibition designed by curator Günther Oberhollenzer from 16 October 2022, the thematic fields and selection of works are more a freely associative than strictly art-historical compilation. Individual views and personal preferences are presented in a self-confident manner.
The exhibition highlights the diversity and special nature of the Angerlehner Collection, with the aim of facilitating interesting as well as unusual juxtapositions between individual works of art - even across generations or hermetic attributions - that give space to contrasting ways of looking at current art discourse. Thematic brackets are devoted to important aspects of painting such as images of people, natural landscapes and colour intoxication, but the photographic gaze, pictorial worlds of drawing and multi-faceted sculptural positions are also on display. The result is an entertaining and varied exhibition course in an effort to present the character of the collection and to delight visitors with an immense diversity of artistic worlds.
