Martin Schnur

21 years of pure painting!

Opening: Thursday, September 18, starting at 6 p.m.

Martin Schnur (born 1964) is one of Austria's best-known figurative painters. His work is characterized by the “picture-in-picture motif”—the superimposition of different sequences in a square image. Whether the focus is on a solitary figure or a landscape, the treatment of color, light, and brushwork is always at the forefront.
In this exhibition, the bechter kastowsky gallery presents an overview of the last 21 years. The oldest landscape painting in the exhibition, from 2003 and on cardboard, is characterized by swift, horizontally oriented brushstrokes: abstract, melancholic. The most recent work in the exhibition opens up the brushstroke to pointedly placed traces of color, in the spirit of Cézanne: open and cheerful.
In between lie several different phases of work, which are juxtaposed and accentuated in the exhibition.

Martin Schnur's paintings have been delighting numerous collectors for years, both nationally and internationally. In addition to private collections, his work is also represented in numerous museums, including the Belvedere in Vienna, the Albertina in Vienna, the Lentos Museum in Linz, and the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg.
