Overview

"Black, shiny surfaces, reflections, city lights, asphalt... are exciting to me, although separately they represent an assemblage of ultimately mundane elements."

The Serbian artist Petar Mirkovic draws. His pictures look like cool excerpts from an all too familiar Hollywood film. In reality, he stages his subjects meticulously: with protagonists, he stages his templates at night in a suitable setting. Photographers, lighting technicians and extras are part of this elaborate staging. In the studio, the resulting settings are transferred to paper in a slow process with the help of charcoal. Whether depictions of cars, yachts or the view from an aeroplane, the works appear at first glance to be undercooled black-and-white photographs, but are in fact pure drawings.
